Let Down Your Hair

Taking down the style is just as important as the stylist's install. When taking down your style, be sure to do so with patience and ease. Excessive pulling and lack of care can cause you to lose more strands of hair from the follicle. Don't be alarmed if you see what appears to be a lot of shedding. The average person loses about 100 strands of hair per day. If you've worn your protective style for 30 days, that 3000 strands! Whew! But please understand that this is normal. Your shedding cycle will also change with the seasons, medication, and overall health. Just be sure to pay attention if your scalp shows signs of thinning or your ends appear to be severely uneven. If your new growth has excessive build up, do not attempt to comb it immediately. Apply some oil (coconut or olive oil will do) to the area and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then start detangling using your fingers. You can then use a detangling comb or brush if necessary. An appointment with your regular stylist is recommended. If you choose to do home maintenance, shampoo your hair (two times) immediately after this process and follow up with a deep conditioner. We recommend using Design Essentials Naturals Detangling Shampoo and Conditioner which can be purchased under the shop tab or during your appointment. Apply leave in conditioner and detangle your hair.
